Dermal fillers exist in many forms and are often distinguished by their composition, duration of effect, biodegradability of components and mode of action. The gel like substance is made up of Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural biodegradable component of our own skin. Treatments are temporary as the body naturally breaks it down over time. Dermal fillers can restore & re-volumise skin & facial contours to form a more youthful appearance and are longer lasting than botulinum toxins. They can also smooth lines and wrinkles, firm key facial structures and define the shape of certain structures e.g. lips. Static lines and volume loss are best treated with dermal fillers.
They comprise of Hyaluronic Acid, a natural biodegradable component of our own skin that can be synthesised (broken down). Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers are reversible with the enzyme Hyaluronidase/Hyalase, so if you do not like the changes it can be reversed. The treatment is less invasive when compared to surgical procedures that can be costly and require longer recovery periods, and quite often irreversible. The likelihood of you developing side effects will be discussed in a consultation after reviewing your past medical history.
Approximately every 6-18 months as Hyaluronic Acid is a natural biodegradable component of our own skin, so the body naturally breaks it down. You will require repeated applications over time to maintain the work carried out. The time for this depends on person to person and depending on the product used.
An anti wrinkle injection is a medicine that contains the active substance Botulinum toxin type A. It is injected into the superficial face muscles which it then relaxes. Anti wrinkle injections are used for improvements of upper facial lines in adults when the severity of these lines has an important psychological impact for the patient. These injections can also be used to control the muscles that open and close the swelt glands to reduce excessive sweating.
Many people have Botulinum Toxin injections regularly and do not develop any side effects, but like all medication some people may be sensitive to it. The likelihood of you developing side effects will be discussed in a consultation after reviewing your past medical history.
Botulinum Toxin can last between 2-4 months before the relaxation properties wear off. This is because your body regenerates the contractile properties of the muscles that were relaxed. We recommend the intervals between two treatments be 3 months apart.
Other dermal fillers, known as "stimulators, "induce an inflammatory reaction with the goal of stimulating fibroblast proliferation and collagen production directly through mechanical stretching of the dermis or through precursor formation. The effect is restoring hydration, elasticity and tone, synergistically associating deep hydration with the mechanical lifting action of the skin depressions. This gives the face a more vibrant and softer effect making the skin look more youthful. Neocollagenesis is believed to yield both longer-lasting treatment results and possibly other benefits to the dermis.
As mentioned above, a dermal filler treatment, known as a stimulator to induce an inflammatory reaction with the goal of stimulating fibroblast proliferation and collagen. However, a larger amount is applied to body areas that it is know to have a good affect on. This gives the body area a more vibrant and softer effect making the skin look more youthful.
